OW Hockey Raises £650 for local charity ‘Always A Chance’
Old Warwickians reunited to play in the Reeves & Partners Charity Hockey Tournament on 19 August, raising money for local charity ‘Always A Chance’. ‘Always A Chance’ was set up in memory of James Cooper, from Warwickshire and James Kouzaris, from Northamptonshire, who were killed in Sarasota, Florida in 2011 by a teenage gunman. The charity works to tackle youth violence in the UK.
The event, organised by OW Rob Pomfret, brought together four teams in a round-robin format – Warwick, Stratford, Coventry and North Warwickshire Hockey Clubs and an Old Warwickians team.
On a sweltering August Sunday, Warwick Hockey Club, themselves featuring a few OWs like Nick Baker and Ian Best, emerged victorious, playing strong, disciplined hockey.
The Old Warwickian Team’s Jack Beard secured the tournament’s top-goal scorer award, brilliantly supported upfront by Max Jennings, Tim Kindt and Ant Baxter. Ben Wiggins also impressed in goal in just his second ever outing between the sticks.
Massive thanks to everyone who played and to sponsors Reeves & Partners Chartered Surveyors and Warwick Sports Shop for their great support.
