2009, OWA vs Kenilworth
OWA vs Kenilworth, 3 July 2009
Geoff Edmunds of Kenilworth kindly agreed that we may use their ground for our Friday game this year. 18 OWs played and Charlie Leonard raised 4 Kenilworth players and captained the combined side.
Kenilworth won the toss and elected to bat. This was 40/40, max’ 8 0vers per bowler.
After the early loss of Thom Whiteside, Rob Howard (27) and Sam Wood (112 not out) put on 79 together, then Kenilworth players, Peebles (34) and Lowe (60), both strong hitters launched their attack and Kenilworth finished on 264-6 after 38.3 overs when Leonard declared.
Of the bowlers, T Lewis, 2-24 off 8 did a good job on his debut with the other wickets shared by Melly (1), Anthony Wilkinson (2) and K Chhibber (1). Reynolds bowled challenging and prodigious leg spin and Spackman showed potential. Opening the bowling, Alastair Wilkinson had to come off after only two overs due to a strain.
Jamie Williams took a fine catch and James Harcourt kept wicket well.
Responding for OWA, Thom Rigby (13) and Tony Crockert (24) opened the innings, J Williams followed (43), other useful contributions were Jim Harcourt (17), Anthony Wilkinson (43), Ed Melly (16) and T Lewis (7 not out). The innings finished on 181 all out off 36.5 overs.
The bowlers were:
Tim Austin 8-0-46-2 (Williams and Melly)
Sam Wood 4-0-24-2 (Reynolds and Ant Wilkinson)
Charlie Leonard 5-0-13-2 (Chhibber and Harcourt)
R Wilson 6-1-23-0
Phillips and Lowe got 2 wickets each.
Support from Messrs Philpott, Robinson and Watson was appreciated.
This is a lovely ground to play cricket with excellent facilities. We received a warm welcome, generous hospitality and great weather. A great day!
