Capt Douglas Brown welcomed to OWA President''s Dinner
Captain Douglas Brown, currently British Airways' Chief Pilot Longhaul, was our guest speaker at the OWA President's Dinner at Girton on Saturday 24 April 2010.
Captain Douglas Brown, currently British Airways' Chief Pilot Longhaul has been flying for 38 years. He started his commercial aviation career as a co-pilot on propeller-driven freight aircraft and still flies regularly as a Boeing 747 Captain, alongside the office job managing BA's 2000 longaul pilots. In between he has been a Civil Aviation Authority approved test pilot on BAC1-11, Boeing 737, 747, 757 and 767 aircraft. Earlier in his career he managed BA's Birmingham operation and has been Chief Technical Pilot for BA, working alongside Boeing, Airbus, the CAA and BA's own engineering department to ensure the continued airworthiness of the BA fleet. He has also spent many months in the USA working with Boeing on introducing new aircraft to BA service and with the US Navy at their Patuxent River Test Centre developing proposals for the Royal Air Force on conversion of Boeing 767 aircraft into airborne refuelling tankers.
