2011 OWs vs. Warwickshire IMPs
Sunday 26 June. Friendly
IMPs skipper Paul Smith elected to bat on a scorching afternoon at school (it got hotter!).
The OWs opening attack of Andy Harris (13 overs, 2 maidens, 44 runs, 2 wickets) and Mark Banham (7-3-15-0) set the tone with tidy spells, the first wicket (Gear) falling at 23 runs, a juggled catch at second slip by Danny Dalton off Harris. There followed a steady second wicket partnership of 67 taking the IMPs score to a promising 85-1 (P Williams 50, Sam Wood (OW) 35). However, both fell in quick succession, Oli Lunel on his OW debut taking the wicket of Williams caught behind by Adam Streeter (wkt). Wood was bowled by Tommy Lewis in a tidy spell of 10-2-43-1.
IMPs slowed up in the middle order. Chris Kroeger bowled effectively towards the end, taking 2 wickets in only 5 overs. There was a late flourish from Golding (33) only briefly threatening OWs control who launched an assault on Steve Dellow (4-0-26-0). Harris was brought back into the attack and Golding soon fell to a fine running catch by Danny Dalton at very deep extra cover. Danny was given the last over to bowl and took the wicket of Paul Rowe (OW), another great catch, this time by Oli Lunel on the mid wicket boundary, looking into the sun. IMPs declared their innings closed at 185-7 in 46 overs.
In reply OWs opening stand of 160 between Charlie Mulraine (102) and Tony Crockert (50) was without doubt the highlight of the day. Charlie played an attractive innings ably supported by his Captain, Tony Crockert, who only nearly ran his partner out once! Charlie played a number of superbly controlled lofted extra cover drives and a couple of straight sixes really caught the eye too. The ball went to all parts and the IMPs 6 man attack was severely punished at times with only Golding emerging with any credit.
Jamie Collins, not out 19 (4 fours) and Danny Dalton, not out 5, finished the innings with more than 4 overs in hand (34 overs in total) to a convincing 8 wicket victory for Old Warwickians.
