2009, Tadmarton GC Meeting
19 May 2009
A great day was enjoyed by all with 14 OWs making it to Tadmarton Heath for coffee and a mornings very social golf – Edinburgh foursomes for the Gracie Tankards. The afternoon saw another OW join us to make for five 3-balls and increase the competition for the much coveted Langley Trophy.
The weather did its best to provide additional harassment for some of the day, but it did little to dampen the camaraderie and friendship - the most common and enduring feature of any OW golf day.
Gracie Tankard results
So often many good pairings (well pairings on paper anyway!) try hard but fail to achieve. However, with the truly commendable score of 35 pts Chris Kaye and John Ayres prevailed as winners. Congratulations to both Chris and John but especially to Chris who successfully defended his crown from last year and so retains his tankard for yet another year.
Runners up on 34pts were Brian Woodham and Edwin Langdale.
The Prizes were enormous with 2 Nike golf balls going to each of the winners and a single ball to the runners up. Ah well!!!
Langley Trophy results
An individual stableford played off 7/8 handicap in the afternoon should have provided for tight competition and it did not disappoint. Though the range of scores was indeed quite wide, the records show that in third place on 29pts was our Captain – Duncan Rotherham. Well done Captain!
In second place, on back 9 count back and having passed all the appropriate doping/urine tests, young Chris (I don’t know if I can carry all my golf balls home) Kaye again with 30pts.
But in first place, a lightly raced individual with a truly wonderful 30pts in tough playing conditions - Mr Mike Barnwell - a delighted and humble winner.
The prizes were similarly high quality: 3 balls to the winner, 2 for second and a single ball to third – all signed by Tiger himself!
